In Matthew 11, Jesus calls us to “Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:29-30 ESV
We have a lot of work ahead of us this year: new church, parsonage remodel, and a baby on the way. And I’m honestly still weary from the last season of moving and morning sickness.
The solution is an easy yoke.
The concept: When a farmer trains a new, young ox, he un-equally yokes the animal, to a much stronger ox. The larger ox carries the majority of the yoke’s weight. This trains the young animal without wearing it out.
Application: I aim to stay yoked to Jesus. He’ll do the heavy lifting, I just need to stay close. If I pull ahead or veer off, I’ll carve a crooked path with much straining. Staying close—staying present—with my strong Savior will result in progress and rest simultaneously.
How about you? Are you yoked to Jesus or over-overcomplicating things, resulting in prolonged weariness? Name 1 thing you can you do to take it “easy” by taking HIS yoke upon you.
